CLASSIC WOODEN COASTER CONSUMED BY GIGANTIC TREE!!!

9/13/06

One might say it sounds like it could possibly be a scene in a horror film or an exhibit in a sideshow or museum. Actually, its just a grand old oak tree that's growing up close to the break run of the Blue Streak roller coaster.

While the horror may not be there, and the oddity probably is, the irony of it definitely is. How ironic can it be that a tree is trying to claim an old wooden roller coaster, 69 years after its construction?

When the Blue Streak was built, this tree was a fraction of the size it is now. It is believed to be nearly a few hundred years old.

Here is the break run of the Blue Streak. As you can see, this tree is trying to take over the old coaster!

What looks like a popsickle stick is actually a 2"x6" board that has been engulfed by the tree. When the Blue Streak was constructed, the board was to the left of the tree.

I guess this is just one of the many quirky things you might find in a vintage, tree-filled amusement park/resort.

See you at the lake!
